The Albino Foundation Public Notice
Stakeholders in the disability world alongside security agencies are geared to hold a one day round table to discuss the plight and security of persons with albinism.
The event scheduled to hold November 12, 2021, at the Zuma Hall, Rock View Royale Hotel Abuja is theme: Confronting Challenges, Safety and Rights of Persons with Albinism.
A collaboration between the INCLUSION magazine, the voice for over 30 million Persons with Disabilities and The Albinism Foundation (TAF) will deliberate on the increasing cases of insecurity on Persons with Albinism.
The Round Table will bring together stakeholders from governments, security agencies, international organisations, corporate bodies, and Persons with Albinism among others. The outcome of the deliberations will form a communiqué to strengthen the safety rights of Persons with Albinism.
The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The Albinism Foundation, Mr Jake Epelle has described the plight of persons with albinism as quite pathetic and in need of urgent intervention.
According to him, the foundation loses three members monthly to skin cancer complications as well as security challenges like kidnapping for ritual purposes.
Epelle noted that some progress is been noticed in the disability world with the establishment of disability desk in all police formations across the country.
Meanwhile the publisher of INCLUSION, Mr Hussaini Abdulrahman has said that the round table will also expose some hidden plight and challenges of those with albinism and assist in connecting them to easier and accessible interventions.
“having an accurate data base of persons with albinism and those with disabilities can help government at all levels to table focused interventions for its members ”.
“we would not be working in a vaccum, but rather with foundations like the albinism foundation, we can work adequately and accurately with a collated number of persons already recognized and known by the authority.
Mr Hussaini Abdulrahman added that the findings from the roundtable will be circulated to all relevant bodies for implementation.
