Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) has concluded a 2 day training for stakeholders in Enugu state. VDI along with other stakeholders also called on the Enugu state government, led by His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba to domesticate the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition Act) 2018 by creating a Disability Commission in the state.

Enugu State as VDI in collaboration with the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Enugu State Chapter held the 2-day  capacity-building workshop at Residency Hotel, Enugu from 4th – 5th June, 2024. The workshop is part of activities under the 2-Year SRHR project being funded by AMPLIFYCHANGE in Enugu, Kwara and Ebonyi States.

In attendance were disability cluster groups, Civil Society Organizations led, among others.

In a Communiqué released at the end of the training, the Executive Director, VDI, Barr. Catherine Edeh and Leadership of Civil Society Organizations called on the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, to as a matter of urgency establish a Disability Commission to be domiciled directly under the Executive Governor of Enugu State to oversee the affairs of persons with disabilities and setup Disability Support Desks and engage Sign.
