The proprietor of New Beacon International School Abuja,Emmanuel Ozigi has disclosed that, they set up the school with a plan to make People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) comfortable and their learning environment conducive.
He discloses this while speaking to journalists on the side of the Graduation/Award ceremony held by the school.
“When we conceptualized the idea of setting up this place, we looked at it that we should also consider people with disabilities. They can go as much as second and third floor.
“Though it was costly, we took that into consideration because we are looking at gender mainstreaming.
“We are looking at equity and putting everybody together and there should be no segregation and distinction between people.
“All the classes and hostels have it. Even the hall here. Everywhere you are can still go to the last floor and have your classes,” he said.
Accorsing to him, the school has large and can accommodate up to 1000 both day and boarding.
“We have accommodation for boarding which is about 500 pupils. We have the dining. We have the hall, the multipurpose hall that accommodate about over 1000 people.
“So we have all these facilities on ground and we are praying that people would use this opportunity to test our products.
“There are testimonies to these about the quality of learning that we have already imparted on some of the students.
“Some people could not read before now but now they can read. I want to praise to the teachers for their strength and efforts.
“One of the key things we are doing is that we are not compromising standards in line with regulatory authorities and in line with best practice.
“The minimum qualification of a teacher here must be an BED and you must have teaching certificate. We do not recruit people who do not have requisite qualification that is the benchmark here.
“Our NCE holder are class assistants. We ensure we pay our teachers well, give them some welfare and ensure they are comfortable,” he said.
