Lagos State Government has asked its state’s chapters of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) not to join the nationwide strike commencing today.
It would be recalled that National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at a meeting in Abia State, called on its members to proceed on an indefinite nationwide strike over issues of welfare, training and service delivery.
But Lagos State’s Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Ajibola Ponle, described the NARD’s decision as hasty. Ponle, in a statement yesterday, appealed for restraint by the association’s members in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the commissioner described as false and misleading a purported directive from the state government, reducing the monthly payment of NYSC doctors from N75,000 to N15,000.
She maintained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to the welfare of the state’s employees, particularly the health workers who have showed commitment, bravery and resilience in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
