As part of its pledge fulfillment, to continue improving standards living for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Country, the federal government has commissioned working tools ,equipments that will support activities of PWDs.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, during a familiarization visit to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD)
Farouq also hailed the efforts of the Commission’s employees in achieving positive outcomes within a short period of time.
The minister who went round the facility to inspect the projects was impressed at the magnitude of what the staff achieved with little resources.
speaking, Farouq said “l am very happy to have commissioned the following projects:
Two Operational Vehicles for the Commission to improve mobility and productivity; The national Disability Electronic Certificate production centre in compliance with the Mini Braille printing centre;The National Disability Data Processing centre; and the beautiful and accessible office complex”
Farouq reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment” as increasingly being crystalized, over Thirty-One million persons with disabilities are beginning to have the visibility and the inclusivity that the community has long yearn for.”
Furthermore Farouq said “As these projects commenced operations from today, we hope for a better data collection, more dignified access to services and accessibility to government print information, policies and other instruments for the Blind. By these, hope is being rekindled in the disability community about their identity and the protection of the rights of Persons with Disability against any form of discrimination or abuse.”
The Minister announced that, Humanitarian Ministry is working tirelessly with the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to facilitate timely access to the waiver for employment into the Commission.
Also speaking, the executive secretary of the Commission ,Mr James Lalu while appreciating the gesture of the Buhari-led administration for the attention it has given PWDs, he also urged all PWD to register on National Disability data application to enable the commission to have their information for subsequent support.
In addition he also called on all blind persons to bring their books to the Mini Braille printing centre for free printing.
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, senator representing Nasarawa central were in attendance alongside Founder of the Kpakpando Foundation, Senator Osita Izunaso both expressed delight on the ease that the projects will bring for PWDs
