The Albino Foundation Public Notice
A community-based organisation, Oshodi Noble Heritage, has empowered 40 widows in Oshodi Community, Lagos, with N50,000 each to support their businesses.
Its founder, Abdul Hakeem Opadijo, said this brings the total number of widows empowered by the foundation to 241 since inception.
According to him, the organisation’s core values are to change the narrative and impact lives in the community.
He added that programme fosters self-sufficiency and resilience among widows, enabling them to cater for their children.
“We started with youth empowerment programmes but we had to advance it since the government started youth empowerment programmes as well. This is the 8th edition of the widow empowerment programme and so far we have been able to empower 241 widows”, he said.
Opadijo urged beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously.
Coordinator of the organisation, Abdulfatai Ogunaike, noted that the organisation holds diverse programmes which include health programme, visitation to psychiatric hospital, Blind schools and sponsoring orphans to their university level.
He added: “ We don’t visit the less-privileged empty handed, we go with things that will help them. We have once fixed their borehole. We also organised free medical checkups and referral to people”.
Ogunaike clarified that the organisation is self-funded through members’ contributions and sponsorships, dispelling misconceptions about political backing.
A Sponsor and awardee, Mrs. Rahmat Saliu, praised the organisation’s efforts, adding that she feels “elated and encouraged to do more.”
She implored the beneficiaries to pray for Opadijo and learn how to be contented with what they have.
“Don’t allow peer pressure to have influence on you and make use of the money given to you wisely” she said.
Two of the beneficiaries – Fatima Olowo and Atinuke Kewulere – expressed gratitude to the organisation and sponsors,.
They promised to utilise the funds wisely.
