Friends and family of Dr. Olabodunrin Oki, Managing Director of Ola Oki Medicals, on Saturday launched the Ola-Oki Memorial Foundation to mark the first anniversary of the passing of the renowned icon.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Senami Ola-Oki, the founder of the foundation, said that her late husband was dedicated to humanity.
“My husband was a man sent by God for the benefit of human beings. He went far in the search for ways to make life better for mankind. Ola-Oki was a caring husband, a fantastic father, and a family man to the extended family he came from,” she said.
Describing the late medical guru, the Personal Aide to Hon. Daudu Basiru, the lawmaker representing the Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and the President of the foundation, Hon. Rafiu Usman, said: “Ola-Oki was a philanthropist and a man of the people.”
Usman, representing the lawmaker at the event, noted that Ola-Oki believed in the ability of individuals, regardless of their disabilities.
“Dr. Ola-Oki was a personal friend of Hon. Basiru, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on People with Disabilities. They had been together from King’s College to the University of Lagos in Akoka. When he was posted to Badagry for his youth service, he decided to stay permanently in Badagry. We were involved in his business until he passed away in 2023,” Usman said.
In her lecture, the Founder of the Lady Atinuke Oyindamola Home for the Mentally Challenged, Mrs. Elsie Akerele described Ola-Oki as her mentor. She said the late doctor was instrumental in helping her establish her home.
“Dr. Ola-Oki assisted greatly in the key focus of the home, which is to provide the basic needs of life and psychosocial services to those with Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy,” Akerele said.
Attendees at the launch shared testimonials about the assistance the late doctor provided during his lifetime.
The Chief Executive Officer of Badagry Parrot Communications, Mr. Zosu Solomon, recalled how Ola-Oki supported his wife during the birth of their daughter.
A series of activities marked the one-year remembrance celebration, including a fitness walk and a medical outreach organized by the staff of Ola Oki Medicals. Residents of Badagry received free medication and treatment during the outreach.
Alhaji Abdulquadri Muhideen, who led a Fidaou prayer for the late doctor, urged residents of Badagry and Lagos to emulate Ola-Oki’s exemplary life.
