The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Bar Simon Lalong yesterday promised to speak to other state governors to assent to the recently signed Persons with Disabilities Bill and have them domesticate same in their states.
The Governor gave the assurances when the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James Lalu and some of the management staff of the Commission and the Members of the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission paid him a courtesy visit.

Barr. Simon Lalong, who was speaking at the Press Hall of the Governor’s Office, Jos Plateau State added that he would not be limit his plea to only the Northern Governor’s Forum, but also to the Nigerian Governor’s Forum and would send a copy to Mr. President stressing the need for the Governor’s to domesticate the Disability Rights Act 2018 in their various States.
The Governor opined that Lalu is like a son to him, and lauded him for not disappointing the people of Plateau State who bestowed their trust and blessings on him.
He commended Mr. Lalu for his passion, commitment, high level of responsibility and dedication in the management of the affairs of Persons with Disabilities in Plateau State and now the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
He posited that Lalu has the capacity to deliver on the mandate of the Commission to over 28 million Persons with Disabilities.
He shared his experiences and how he developed passion for Persons with Disabilities and how that has been complemented by the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs , Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq who is equally a passionate person that has paid a motherly role in the affairs of Persons with Disabilities in the country.
He said, “she honored me to let Mr. James Lalu pioneer the management of Commission, because he has a dream for the Disability Community and only a passionate person can drive the dream to its peak.

He added that anybody can become a person with Disability anytime, and it’s important for everyone to note that when you prepare a conducive environment for Persons with Disabilities, you are preparing a place for yourself.
Earlier Mr. James Lalu, the executive secretary of the commission, expressed his deepest gratitude to the Governor, and the Governor’s unrelenting efforts in ensuring that the Disability Community gets to the pinnacle of their dreams.
He commended that governor for his commitment to the cause of Disability matters which prompted him to Domesticate the Disability Act by Establishing the Disability Rights Commission in Jos, Plateau State.
The Deputy Governor , Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, some Commissioners and members of the State Executive team, a member of the Council of the NCPWD. Mrs. Esther Agulu, some management and staff of the NCPWD, the Chairman, Plateau State Disabilities Rights Commission, Kienan Mizim and her Members, APC party chieftains ,SA on Disability matters from Local Government Areas were part of the visit.
