In the spirit of “nothing about us, without us” Dr. James David Lalu, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities has taken the drive for the Inclusion of Persons With Disabilities to the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission today 5th March, 2024 in Abuja.

While briefing the leadership of the Commission, the ES reminded them that Persons With Disabilities have not been visibly represented in the Christian pilgrimages but, quickly expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s strong political will to operate an all inclusive governance will enhance the desired change.

“I have no doubt in mind that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will make adequate provisions for Persons with Disabilities to have a sense of belonging in the society” he asserted.

The ES further underpinned the significance of religious organizations in shaping the opinions of the public through interventions and Humanitarian programs.

He further hinted that the Commission has been on an aggressive drive for at least 5% employment representation in all government offices and this does not exclude NCPC.

“I want to sincerely solicit 10% representation out of over 35 million Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria to feature on this year’s pilgrimage to Jerusalem” he added.

Lalu equally spoke about the need for accessibility in NCPC for ease of access for Persons With Disabilities.

In a rapid succession, the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Bishop Adegbite Stephen Victor expressed his pleasure at the visit which coincides with his one month in office.

“Let me reassure you that there is hope for the community of Persons with Disabilities under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” he re-echoed.

The Bishop informed that Persons With Disabilities are part of his family and he will ensure that the message gets to high ranking political office holders who will be part of the sponsorship to the Holyland (Jerusalem) in due time.

He, therefore, reiterated that the new structure being built as the Headquarters of NCPC will put into consideration the provisions of the accessibility standard.

The high point of the meeting was the presentations of Accessibility Standard Regulation, and other relevant documents of NCPWD by Dr. Lalu.
