Initiative For The Liberalization Of Physically Challenged People In Nigeria (ILPCPN) has commenced a capacity building and empowerment project on poultry farming for some seventy Persons with Disabilities. The project is one of a number of activities to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, IDPD was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It is celebrated across the world every 3rd December. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues, mobilize support for the Rights and well-being of Persons with Disabilities and increase awareness of gains to be derived from the Integration of Persons with Disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
The theme for this year is “leadership and participation of Persons with Disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-covid-19 world.”
In a statement released by the Chairman of ILPCPN, Hamza Waziri Muhammad, he explained that the objective of these empowerment schemes is to inspire, motivate and empower PWDs with necessary life skills for them to live independently as they commemorate this year’s World Disability Day.
According to him “this empowerment project means a lot to me and my fellow Mandela Washington Alumni. It is our own way of showing gratitude for the investment the American government has made in us.
“We’re giving back to, or rather sharing with society, a gift bestowed on us by a part of humanity in another continent who realize that we all exist on the same global stage. Despite having physical and mental Disabilities, they still acknowledged as people and part of the human race.
“I chose to host the event in the American Corner located within the Professor Iya Abubakar crescent, Bauchi State.
“The participants needed to appreciate that I had to undergo a fairly challenging process to be in that American Space. Hence, they also must be prepared to sacrifice and make efforts to become Ambassadors of the Empowerment Project I am offering, he said.
