Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has given cheques worth N2 million to about 1,700 women, youths and people with disabilities through its Agro-Processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support, (APPEALS), programme.
The cheques were presented at a formal launch of the agricultural intervention programmes, held at the headquarters of Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, KNARDA on Thursday.
Governor Ganduje described the programme as a great milestone towards his administration’s agricultural derive, aimed at creating employment opportunities and providing food security in the state.
The governor added that the programmes were aimed at improving the livelihood of the farmers, especially the women and peoples with disabilities.
Part of the intervention formally inaugurated by the Governor through APPEALS Project KNSCO was Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) E-Library|Data Repository Centre Supported by APPEALS and Modern Gurasa, with improved Processing Technologies demonstrated by Dala Wheat Processing Cluster.
The governor thanked the partners, especially the APPEALS Project, SASAKAWA and others for their interventions towards agricultural development in the state,
The Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who doubles as the State Commissioner for agriculture assures the farmers of more laudable Programs in the State.
The Kano state coordinator of APPEALS, Hassan Ibrahim thanked the governor for the empowerment scheme and explained that the beneficiaries had undergone a two-week live skills training on poultry, aquaculture, rice and dairy production, processing and marketing.
According to him APPEALS had also helped the beneficiaries secure a business name registration with Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, aimed at supporting them to establish their own business enterprises.
“The beneficiaries had to also developed a viable, profitable and sustainable business plans for agricultural enterprises.
” We also supported them with free mentorship in a bid to help them develop their own business enterprises that would be profitable and sustainable,” Mal. Ibrahim disclosed.
In his welcome address, the MD KNARDA Dr Junaidu Yakubu, spoke on numerous Agricultural intervention programmes aimed at boosting food Production in the state adding that Kano is one of the states with highest extension workers.
