Honorable Ayuba Gufwan, welcomed the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) team in Abuja, he expressed his appreciation for their contribution towards Commission’s efforts to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
“We are committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities,” said Honorable Gufwan. “We look forward to working with CHAI to identify innovative solutions to address the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Nigeria.”
The CHAI Program Manager Zainab Tukur congratulates the Executive Secretary of his appointment into office. She re-assure the Commission of their commitments towards providing access to assistive technology to persons with disability in Nigeria.
She added that CHAI had worked closely with the National Commission and the Federal Ministry of Health to developed a comprehensive five-year assistive technology scale-up plan and investment case. This collaborative effort aims to provide a roadmap for improving access to assistive devices and healthcare services for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and adults with medical conditions in Nigeria.
One of the key outcomes of this partnership is the development of assistive product standardization and specification, which was submitted to the Standard Organisation of Nigeria last year. This milestone has led to the publication of 19 items through the Nigeria Industrial Standards, marking a significant step towards ensuring that assistive devices meet the required standards.
The Executive Secretary said, ‘CHAI’s collaboration with the Commission demonstrates their commitment to promoting inclusive healthcare and access to assistive technologies. By working together, they aim to bridge the gap in access to healthcare services and assistive devices, ultimately improving the quality of life for PWDs in Nigeria.
Honorable Gufwan added the Commission look forward to achieving greater heights in their partnership with CHAI as they all remain dedicated to ensuring that PWDs have equal access to assistive devices and healthcare services.
