Three hundred eighty-three candidates with visual impairments and other forms of disability sat for the 2022 UTME. The Abuja Centre Coordinator of JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), Prof. Sunday Ododo, said there was no challenge because materials such as typewriters, computers, and braille devices were provided.
Prof. Ododo stated, “However, there are few exceptions; those who are not blind but scared to write the examination, like those with Down Syndrome and autism.
In their case, we bring Examiners to read questions to their hearing and allow them to produce the answers and the Examiner help to write them down or the candidate could braille them down.”
Mr Jake Epelle, CEO/ Founder of The Albino Foundation, was an exam invigilator and exclaimed that the 2022 JAMB’s UTME for blind candidates was a fantastic exercise.
Mr Epelle, however, called on JAMB to expand the demography to accommodate others who also need this kind of intervention. Most significantly, the community; Persons with Albinism because this kind of intervention is necessary and did not include them in the general examination.
