The Niger state Chairman of Persons With Disabilities arm of All Progressives Congress (APC), Isa Umar Aliyu has appeal to the state government to include PWDs in the aspect of decision making and implementation in the state.
He made this known in an interview with INCLUSION Magazine in Minna where he further highlighted discrimination and lack of government attention as the major challenges facing persons with disabilities in the state.
The chairman called on Gov Abubakar Sani Bello to provide curriculum design, development and implementation of a working plan for PWDs in the state.
Aliyu also pleaded with the Niger State Government for the quick assent and implementation of the Disability Act which has been in comatose stage. He added that if the Act is signed and implemented in the state, it will help in creating autonomy for persons with disabilities.
”If the Act is passed, provision for social amenities, such as health, shelter, education, and job creation for persons with disabilities will be taken care of”, Aliyu added.
He also stated that the government should always have people with special needs their heart while taking some decisions as most decisions taken are often unfavourable to PWDs.
Government should please include our members in times of political appointment and should also be allowed to vote and be voted for, Aliyu said. He also stated that there should be special consideration for people with special needs during voting and their needs should be catered for to avoid being disefranchised.
