“We are here to underline the support and solidarity of the UN with the four countries. We are interested in the situation of internally displaced persons and refugees in the four countries.
“We would go to Maiduguri to assess the situation there and we are very aware of the role that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs is playing on the issue of internally displaced persons and refugees.
“So the reason for our visit here is first and foremost to congratulate and encourage you for all the work you do and also to let you know that the UN and the international community are always by your side,” Annedif said. .
Likewise, Fall said humanitarian issues were important to the UN, noting that the joint mission visited Chad and Cameroon, where it saw improvements as many IDPs and refugees were ready to return home. them, to whom the United Nations was ready to assist. .
“However, you are doing a good job. The creation of your ministry is a sign of the Nigerian federal government that it is ready to tackle humanitarian issues, ”he added.
In response, Farouq, represented by Alkali, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said the ministry has always cooperated with United Nations agencies in carrying out its mandate.
She said the ministry was established with the main mandate of coordinating all humanitarian responses in Nigeria and facilitating better migration management, through the relevant implementing agencies, adding that since its inception, it had taken measures to position itself strategically towards the achievement of its mandate.
“In accordance with the mandate and with the aim of supporting structures that will enable long-term sustainable programming of aid efforts in Nigeria, the ministry has developed and institutionalized a strategic framework and roadmap for civil security cooperation. , also known as CiSEC, for humanitarian response. in the Northeast.
“The ministry, while focusing on recovery, including sustainable local models for rehabilitation, recovery and reconstruction, has developed the national framework for humanitarian development and peace that will serve as a guide to address the root causes of conflict. and manage disasters / emergencies in the country. holistically.
“We do a lot because we have NEMA and other agencies doing a good job. I am optimistic that the ministry will be open to a partnership with you to find lasting solutions to the protracted challenges in the Lake Chad region ”,
