Following the demolition of an under construction building belonging to one Mr. Anibueze Nnadi, visually impaired and resident in Igbo-Etiti, L.G.A, Enugu State, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, NCPWD, Mr. James Lalu, has initiated a process of inquiry into the matter through his Technical Assistant.

The inquiry aimed to investigate the nature and extent of discrimination meted against the visually impaired person.

The two bedroom apartment, which has been fully roofed with aluminum roofing sheets, plastered and was receiving finishing touches was completely pulled down by some men believed to be thugs on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, while speaking in tears, the 65 year old blind man has urged that the government bring to justice perpetrators of the crime which led to demolishment of a 2-bedroom apartment being built for him by a kind hearted kinsman.

Enraged by the ugly incident, Mr. Lalu, promptly assigned his technical assistant to follow up the matter and report on possible interventions for the victim.

However, government officials who also probed the matter assured NCPWD of prompt intervention. True to their words, the Enugu State Governor took retributive action by suspending a traditional ruler, Christopher Everestus Okwor of Ihekwuenu Aku autonomous Community, Igbo-Etiti L.G.A. Investigations revealed that the traditional ruler was complicit in the debacle. The suspension took effect yesterday, September 21, 2021.

In the meantime, INN gathered that the Enugu State Government is on top of the matter.
