The Anambra state chapter of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) is organizing a town hall and media engagement forum between all governorship candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in the state with its members.
The event tagged ‘Interactive Forum Between Governorship Candidates and Persons with Disabilities’’ has the support of Barr Chukwuka Ezewuzie, Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Disability Matters, and Comr. Ugo Okeke, the Executive Assistant to Governor Obiano on Disability Matters.
The program which is organised in collaboration with the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) in Anambra State is part of the media and town hall engagement for governorship candidates and the PWDs in the state and is aimed at sustaining the good work of inclusive governance of Governor Obiano led administration.
In an interview with INCLUSION Magazine, The immediate past chairman, Anambra JONAPWD, Lawrence Nwanolue, explained that the event is to ensure that the excellent work of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state is sustained.
He also praised the governor for building an inclusive government for PWDs that other states can emulate.
Also in another interview with our reporter, Ezeonwumelu Vivian, the chairperson Anambra State Albinism Association (ASAA), stated that the forum is designed for governorship candidates to present their manifesto and explain to PWDs in the state especially on the issue of inclusive governance.
An official (name withheld) stated, “We want to hear from the candidates manifestos as they relate to PWDs. We in Anambra do not want charity and gratifications for vote from any candidate, but we want to be involved in all the campaign processes and elections”.
“When these candidates go for campaign in villages and communities, PWDs are always excluded. We decided to organize our own town hall and media forum so that the candidates will tell us themselves what they have for us and how inclusive their government will be.”
“We (PWDS) have the population, we have the voice and we want to be included in all the process of policy formulation and implementation. The time has passed when we are handed foodstuffs to vote. We want empowerment and inclusiveness”, the official concluded.
The interaction forum is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 21st September 2021, at St. Mathew’s Catholic Church Podium Amawbia, by time 12noon.
Meanwhile, in a statement signed by the PRO, Mr Ifeanyi Igwegbe, all members of PWD in the state are advised to grace the occasion and participate fully by asking questions, while for those who will not be able to attend in person have been advised to hookup on radio and television, as issues that affect their wellbeing will be discussed.
