The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has been called upon to accent to the state disability bill presently on his desk and establish the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities. 

The Head of Gender and Social Inclusion Network of Yobe Civil Society Organisations (NYCSO), Comr. Mohammed Abba Isa made the call during the Yobe State 2022 Budget Preparation Section.

The event attended by the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Hon Idi Barde Gubana was urged to establish disabilities desk, employ Officer/Focal Officers with budget lines, Budget lines for Education, Health and Legal Services for the disabled community.

Comr. Isa spoke on how to add value for the Successful implementation of Inclusive budgeting to PWDs and other vulnerable groups in Preparation of 2022 Budget.

“Inclusive government in this case inclusive budgeting is the hallmark of a successful and inclusive development.

“Today Yobe state is one of the state with highest number of persons with Disabilities with most of them living in the rural areas with zero access to education, health, water and sanitation. Therefore, is pertinent for this group of people to be properly mainstreamed into every facet of the economy”.

“Though we anticipate soonest the Executive governor of Yobe state Mai Mala Buni will give his assent to the Yobe state disability bill which is before him and subsequently establish the Yobe state disability right Commission.

“However, before then I encourage all ministries, department and agencies (MDAs) to critically identify areas of great concerns to persons with Disabilities and adequately provide for its input the budget circle.

Other issues of concern include to improve budget in education, health and social intervention to accommodate persons with Disabilities, establishment for Desk Officer/Focal Officers with budget lines, budget lines for Education, Health and Legal Services for the disabled community.

The group implored the Yobe State government to make the 2022 budget more inclusive by ensuring accessibility for PWD in all capital project while calling for the establishment of the Government Girls Senior Secondary School to improve Girl child education.
