NCPWD, NABG Forge Strategic Partnership To Promote Disability Inclusion In Agribusiness

The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, has reiterated the commission’s commitment to economic empowerment and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. This commitment was emphasized during a strategic meeting with the Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG) to advance disability inclusion in the agribusiness sector.
A delegation from NABG, led by its Head of Inclusion, Bello Aliyu Abdulrahman, visited the NCPWD headquarters to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at providing PWDs with access to agricultural training, funding opportunities, and market linkages.
Hon. Gufwan underscored the importance of this partnership in creating sustainable economic opportunities for 35.5 million PWDs in Nigeria. He emphasized that their active participation in agribusiness would not only improve their livelihoods but also contribute significantly to national food security.
“Ensuring the full inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in all sectors of the economy is a top priority for this administration. Agriculture is a key driver of economic growth, and PWDs must be given equal opportunities to thrive in the sector. We are committed to working with NABG to eliminate barriers and create a more inclusive agribusiness environment,” Hon. Gufwan stated.
On his part, Bello Aliyu Abdulrahman reaffirmed NABG’s dedication to integrating marginalized groups, including PWDs, into its agricultural programs. He highlighted the importance of policy frameworks that enable PWDs to engage in agribusiness, access financial resources, and leverage technology for improved productivity.
“The Nigerian Agribusiness Group is committed to fostering inclusivity in the sector. Our collaboration with NCPWD will ensure that PWDs are fully integrated into the agribusiness value chain,” Abdulrahman said.
The partnership will focus on policy advocacy, specialized training, and capacity-building programs tailored for PWDs. NABG also aims to identify and support PWDs already engaged in agriculture by linking them to market opportunities, funding sources, and technological innovations.
Speaking on the significance of the partnership, NCPWD’s Director of Social Integration, Mr. Lawrence, emphasized that economic empowerment through agribusiness aligns with the commission’s mandate to integrate PWDs into all aspects of national development.
Both parties agreed to establish a structured working framework to ensure the seamless implementation of their shared objectives, ultimately enhancing agribusiness opportunities for PWDs across Nigeria.
