The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Mr James Lalu has applauded the celebration of Children with Disabilities for the first time on a Children’s Day of May 27, 2021. The Executive Secretary was represented by a Director in the Commission, Mr Lawrence Idemudia, stated, that “I am so happy to be part of this event today’’ and added that ‘‘never, never, never, have I heard of a Special Day for Children with Disabilities until today. Today is therefore very remarkable to us, I say THANK YOU to the organisers of this event,” Lawrence said.

Mr Idemudia urged all Nigerians to join hands with government to build inclusive school environments for Children with Disabilities as they are the leaders of tomorrow.

He further challenged special children in the country to dedicate themselves to their studies for the sake of their future. “If I had not gone to school and if the President of JONAPWD didn’t go to school, we would not have been here to speak to you. Maybe we would not even be part of this historic event,” he said. He re-emphasised that if they, the children, study hard, they will succeed, ‘but if you join cult or engage in social vices like stealing and examinations malpractices, you will be a failure”.

During the event, special children that participated were drawn from various cluster groups of Persons with Disabilities from different public and private schools in Abuja were given standing ovation by participants at the event.

The event was held at Rockview Hotel, Abuja by INCLUSION, a monthly magazine published by A K Global Concepts Limited with an online platform that reports stories, events and other issues as it affects Persons with Disabilities. A K Global Concepts Limited, is an Abuja based Media and Management Consultancy firm.
