The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has called on Nigerians to embrace positive mindset that will help integrate Persons with Disabilities seamlessly into the society.
The ES made this appeal in Abuja, during a Stakeholders’ Advocacy event organized by Disability Rights Advocacy Centre (DRAC) on the Integration of Disability Rights into the curricula of Justice Key Players in Nigeria.
Lalu expressed his pleasure for having all stakeholders represented at the event. He enjoined participants to learn and, impact on colleagues and their communities from what they have learned by being good ambassadors of the justice system.
Mr Lalu ask all Nigerians to drop the “sorry slogan” and embrace inclusiveness for Persons with Disabilities as these will assist in easy and seamless integration of PWD into the society.
The Executive Secretary explained the value of a good justice system for PWDs especially Women with Disabilities that need to be educated, on their rights and how to access the justice system in Nigeria. “Educating the girl child will bring to bare the consciousness and awareness of her rights in the society,” he said.
“Change in attitude must begin from anyone, just as the former Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Jonah Jang brought about positive approach when he established a Law to advance the course of PWDs in Plateau State” he disclosed.
