Biose Falade, a writer with disability and author of the book “Nimi: the warrior girl” has come out to tell the motive behind her book. Falade says she wanted to depict a Person with Disability as hero. This, she believes will stand out the book from the many thousands released across the globe each year.
Falade, in an interview with Inclusive News Network revealed the story behind the book, as well as her reasons for choosing the title:”Nimi”.
“We love telling and listening to stories. Story telling comes naturally to me. Our motivation for writing this story comes from various experiences while growing up. Then, there were no books portraying Persons with Disabilities as the hero. When disability was mentioned, it was as a superpower which canceled out the victim altogether. So, we wanted a story that showed the hero as a young person with disability and still wanted to do wondrous things with his/her life.”
Falade disclosed that people’s perception of Persons with Disabilities are too often negative, hence the choice, “Nimi” (Ayanfeoluwanimi, I am God’s chosen), as cover title didn’t come as a surprise.
According to her, “Nimi was purposely chosen because children and young People with Disabilities are seen as a curse, punishment, or a hindrance. By this story, we are saying: “We are God’s creation too. God knew what He was doing when He made us.”
“The book aims at delivering a “Your lives matter” message to children with Disabilities. It points out that their distinct individualities are more important than their disabilities. These impressionable young minds have gifts in them which their disability cannot kill.
“I wanted to tell these special kids that their dreams and aspirations are valid and real.”
Falade had words of encouragement for those with negative perspectives on disability. She says: “Disability is not a bad thing, it’s part of the circle of life. Some people go through it early, and others, at a later stage. Having a Disability doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dreams. As a matter of fact, that Disability may be the reason you are able to achieve your Dreams.
“Give Persons with Disabilities a chance to prove they are capable of doing anything they set their mind to”.
INN can authoritatively report that the book launch was a huge success with copies sold out at the event. Incase you need a copy, the book is available on Amazon.
