The Executive Secretary, National Commission For Person With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu, npom, has paid a familiarization visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The visit is meant for the commission to familiarize itself with sultanate council, the inclusion of religious councils in the upcoming disability summit and also Issues of National Interest. It was also an opportunity to seek the royal Father’s wisdoms and blessings.
The Executive Secretary said, it has been a long-time ambition for the commission to meet the sultan of Sokoto, he expressed his gratitude towards the support the sultan has been giving to persons with disabilities in Sokoto State especially during sallah celebrations. “As a father of persons with disabilities in Nigeria your eminence, it is an honor to us that finally a commission that will struggle for the inclusion of persons with disabilities was established by this current administration, for over 19 years persons with disabilities has been struggling for inclusion in national planning but finally our dream is finally coming true. Everyone should be aware that God made us all equal and disability is only part of human diversity to make us one way or the other different from each other. And that is one of our priorities to ensure that we curtail all forms of discrimination against persons with disabilities.”
Mr. James went further to inform the Sultan of a plan to organize a historical National Summit by the commission which is in the Pipeline, in which issues concerning persons with disability will be tabled and highly deliberated on, the executive secretary seeks for the active participation of religious councils in the summit and appealed to the sultanate to continue being a council that wipe away tears of persons 0with disabilities not just in Sokoto State but Nigeria at large.
In response His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar applauded the efforts of National Commission For Persons with Disabilities and Mr. James David Lalu, he noted that appointing Mr. James David Lalu as the Executive Secretary of the commission is one of the meritorious decision President Muhammad Buhari has made, because he has no doubt that the executive secretary will never relent until he has achieved his goal for total inclusion of persons with disabilities in national planning, the sultan also assured the Executive Secretary of his full participation and that of his consulate in the upcoming National summit. His Eminence pinned that already in Sokoto State all persons with disabilities are being paid N6,500 monthly to ease their day-to-day activities. He prayed for the safe return of the Executive Secretary to his office as he assured him of his total support.
The Executive secretary was in company of the Ag, Chairman NCPWD Governing council Amina Audu. Assistant Director Human Resources NCPWD Muhammad Baba, Mr Samuel Kwamkur, Aisha Abdullahi, social inclusion advocate, Mu’azu Habibu, Sokoto State chairman PWD, Abdul’aziz Ibrahim, S.A to the executive governor of Sokoto State on disability matters, among others.
