Redemption International for the Blind with support from Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) recently distributed Android Phones to some blind people in Jos Nigeria where both NGOs were based.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony which took place at Redemption International for the Blind, situated in Shaka, Jos North LGA, a representative from SIL Mrs Catherine Norton said the money for the items came from their sister organization in Papua New Guinea.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Executive Director, Redemption International for the Blind, Ayuba Isa Waziri expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization adding that the whole essence of the exercise was to put smiles on the faces of blind people in Nigeria.
He stressed that the device would go a long way in reshaping the lives of the beneficiaries taking into cognizance that the world has gone Digital. “The world has moved to technology but you would discover that blind people have been left behind.
“Now with these Android Phones, we would equally join others in knowing what is happening across the globe.
“But most importantly is the fact that the essence of having these phones is to enabled the blind know more about God and it is for this purpose that each phone has an installed version of the Bible in the dialect of the beneficiary
“And as I said earlier, in addition to knowing God, the phones can equally enabled the beneficiaries contribute their quota to nation building having known what is happening in the world”, Waziri said.
The Executive Director further stated that while SIL donated Android Phones, the Redemption International for the Blind donated a type writer to a student of College of Education, Zuba, Niger State.
Two of the beneficiaries, Nankam Tina Danladi and Yakubu Davou all expressed gratitude to the NGO noting that the device would surely help them in studying the Bible more than before, widen their scope, expand their horizon and place them in a better position to contribute their quota to socio-economic development of Nigeria.
